Thank you, Soma.

Hello, friends!

I wanted to take a second to let you know about some changes that are on the horizon for me and for Soma Waxahachie.

For many of you, this will not be new news but for others, you may be hearing this for the first time. Two weeks ago I wrote the elders governing our church and sent them my resignation. This is something that we have been discussing and processing together over the past 9 months and together we have come to the decision that the time is right for me to hand off what we have built together to another pastor. Therefore, as of the last day of July I will be handing over pastoral leadership to Joshua Balthrop.

Serving and leading Soma has been one of the great privileges of my life. Though leading our church has been at times difficult and presented me with many challenges along the way, it has been with great pleasure that I have been able to serve God’s people these past 7 years. The small victories far outweigh any of the burdens I may have had to carry. I am exceedingly thankful for the time that I have been allowed to serve and for your partnership in Jesus’ kingdom building project.

The great news is that my resignation does not mean that I am leaving the work that we started. On July 31 my employment with Soma will be terminated and on August 1 I will take over as Executive Director of 101 South College (101 SoCo). 101 SoCo is the non-profit organization that operates the building where we gather as an event venue. 101 SoCo is a sister organization to Soma that financially supports the ministry of the church so that the offerings that are given on Sunday go directly to financing gospel mission and not to paying the light bill or our landlord. So while I will no longer be leading the church from the pulpit I will be providing direct support to the church and our vision of saturating Waxahachie with the knowledge of the glory of Jesus. In addition, serving with 101 South College will allow me to continue providing executive support to the church so that Joshua will be able to focus his efforts on pastoral ministry.

To the covenant members of Soma Waxahachie, thank you for allowing me to serve you. I will no longer be your pastor but I will forever remain your friend. To my financial supporters, thank you for trusting me with what you gave to our Lord. And to my family, thank you for the multitude of sacrifices that you made as I led our church toward Jesus.

If you have any questions or concerns about this transition, please feel free to reach out.

Enjoy Grace, Soma.
Pastor Josh
